presto has screwed up the telephone line...

I have a problem with Presto screwing up the telephone line. Here's what happened: A new presto was unpacked, installed, plugged into a power source and an analog telephone line. It made the initial telephone call to presto.com and printed out a sheet with a security-code/password to initiate the account. The code was entered and accepted via the presto.com website. Everything looked great except that the telephone line into the house was now unavailable. Static is heard on the telephone line when you pick up any of the handsets. The presto is unable to initiate a call to collect email. Unplugging presto from the telephone jack restores the line so that the telephones work. Plugging presto back into the telephone jack results in static on the line and makes the telephones unusuable. It's as if presto did not hang up or is somehow taking over the line, except that presto also can't dial out to collect email. A regular telephone works fine when plugged into the jack presto is using. I've checked with the telephone company and they say the line is definitely analog. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Mark

I would like to shop and to contribute to messages to send to my parents. Some of us could contribute messages that could be personalized by other 'shoppers' who would then have interesting content to send to their folks. M parents are just thrilled when the Presto produces that delivery tone...so I'd like good stuff to send them. How about a free 'message store'? We can select a message, personalize it and send it on it's way from our regular email.

I sent an email to a bunch of clergy I know. They deal with seniors and others who might benefit from Presto. I gave them the positive experience my 92 year old mother is having and mentioned the simplicity and other attributes. I have had very positive feedback. I would recommend that Presto contact churches, senior centers etc and point out what is available. I emphasized: - good for hard of hearing, - can send instructions and reminders (re. meds , appointments, etc), - hands off, -dial-up, - and my mother's favorite--------- PICTURES!

I'd really like to see a counter on the admin site of how many emails are queued and processed during the last connection. We are apparently at the mercy of "rural" phone service, and sometimes it connects, sometimes it doesn't. Knowing whether there are pending and processed emails will allow us long-distance-admins to know whether we have a problem or not.

This won't be a priority, I realize, but perhaps it could be implemented sometime in the future. The calendar idea is a nice one. But it won't really help my parents to have a calendar that has no information on it. What would be really nifty would be a calendar that had birthday, anniversary, graduation, vacation, etc. information on it. Where I could enter the info that on, say, August 10 it will be Billy's 10th birthday; and that Jim and Joanne plan to visit on August 21st. That would be a real plus!

Registration of friends is cumbersome....it prevents friends from passing on the Presto Owner's email addres to others... how about if an unknown sender's email comes in, it bounces to the administrator who can then "ok" or "reject" the sender....if "ok", the email goes thru AND the sender is automatically registered...the admin could then go in later to add phone number, name etc if desired....love the device....DEP

Please help if you can Presto enthusiasts. I purchased my Presto machine like so many of us last december for my elderly parents so we can send them e-mails and photos etc. We were very happy with the printer and the service until early february when I received an e-mail from Presto that the phone number my parents unit would be calling in to receive messages was being changed from their tollfree nationwide number to a local number in heir home town. Mom advised that she also got a message accross the printer stating the same. Since that date no messages have been received dispite several troubleshooting efforts. As I live halfway accross the country I must call tech support and then have my technologically challenged parents follow the steps presto gives me such as unplug phone and power chords, depress the stop button and press + and - etc, then wait until the next cue time to see if it works. Presto rep did enter the tollfree number back into the selection field but it appears under the lcl number which is likely incorrect. I cannot delete the local number and Presto has not been able to do so...

The idea would be that the user could also send email from the Presto without a computer. Would any of you find this feature useful? Do you see any flaws in the idea? I'd like to hear what you think!

Everything I've read has been great about the Presto service. However, our experience is not so wonderful. We bought my mother a Presto email machine for Christmas and set it up 2 days in advance. I spent 3 days on & off of the phone with the Presto Team. Though the machine would sometimes dial out when forced, it would not call out automatically. It was decided that the machine was defective so it was returned. Now we have a new one. I was able to talk Mom through the setup. It wouldn't work. To make a long story shorter, we got it to call out once last night after a reset and it called out once automatically. Now it has missed the next two call times. I am living in another state and don't really want to have to drive there to resolve this issue. Has anyone else had problems that were eventually resolved. What did it take? It's very frustrating to just keep pulling the plug. Then waiting, then forcing a dial, then waiting some more. And to follow up on our Presto problem.... Peter Radsliff contacted me right away and got everyone in the Presto Team involved...

I saw one posting that indicated the "Ink Status" report did not work with 3rd party ink cartridges; has anyone found less costly cartridges that will properly register the status? Most of us realize that HP makes money on their ink and other expendables, and at one cartridge per month, that is aboyt $420 per year on ink, more if we step-up the usage with more content. (This may be one reason NOT to use "Presto Styles", because it accelerates the depletion of ink)... Cutting the ink costs by 1/2 or even 1/3 would be welcome, but the ink status reporting is a major requirement for us; so we are on a quest for cheaper ink cartridges that also properly report their status.

I have also noted that in some cases, there are "hints" of upcoming features, but it is unclear if there is a schedule of future enhancements and targeted release dates. Certainly, if the Presto management is aware of the value to their customers of a particular feature, they could factor that in along with the cost to implement to prioritize the new features. Here is my wish list for Presto fixes & enhancements, I encourage every one to post their “votes” for their top three choices: Enable Account Manager to view Message Headers (From Address & Subject Line) for all items in queue to be delivered Provide delivery metrics history (Message header & Date/Time delivered) Include Time & Date on all messages Enable PDF formatted messages to be delivered, and “as is” (no applied styles, font changes, etc) Enable “unscaled” graphics (i.e.: do not reduce our images to 4” x 6”) Ensure a dial tone is detected BFORE dialing (i.e.: do not disturb voice calls that are in progress) More subscription services that provide “mental exercises” On/Off button One-ream (500 page) paper capacity Enable 3...
