I thought I had found a digital-to-analog converter to use with the Presto and Qwest digital phone service, so I ordered the Presto.  Then I went to order the converter and I noticed a PDF users manual; looked at that and found that the converter is not to be connected directly to the wall phone jack (it goes between the phone & the handset), so I guess it's unusable for this application.  Already tried Best Buy and Radio Shack stores.  They don't have a clue.

Since so many telephone systems around the country are now digital, why doesn't Presto have a digital version, or at least offer a converter as an acccessory?

I've been working on this project all week, and this is where I've ended up ... a Presto on order and possibly no way to use it.  So, is there any place I can buy one of these converters so the Presto will work for my mom?

Hi Lynn. While Presto was designed to be used with an analog phone line, we know that many customers are successfully using it with digital lines. Normally, the phone line would attach to the Printing Mailbox and the converter, with another phone cable going from the converter to the wall jack. If you let us know the model of converter you've purchased, our customer support staff is happy to help you figure out the set up.

Hi Jennifer. Haven't bought a converter yet (my original question was, where can I get one?). My son-in-law found this one for me http://www.konexx.com/dwi_single.htm The Presto worked fine when I tried it on my own telephone line, but wouldn't work on my Mom's Qwest digital line. I had high hopes because the blue light was on, so I thought all systems go.

If you would check out the Konexx converter on the site above, I'd appreciate your opinion.

Lynn-

Thanks for the information. I've asked customer support to take a look, and will let you know what we learn.

Hi Lynne.  Our customer support group has done some research on the Konexx converter, and it should work with the Printing Mailbox.  Here is a diagram to help in setting it up:

Hi Jennifer -- Thanks for checking on the Konexx converter. Since I sent my query, Presto changed my mother's dial-up to a local Twin Cities number and the Presto Mailbox has been working (for the most part) ever since. However, perhaps your research will help out someone else who needs a converter. To those who do, here's a tip: check out Amazon.com; there could be some less expensive ones to be found there.

My mom is hearing impaired, so using the phone isn't easy for her. But by all accounts she is loving her Presto. Daily emails can be rather mundane, so if I don't have a fun new photo to send, I dig into my vacation photo archives and relive my travels with her. So it's been fun for me, too. At the suggestion of another Presto patron, I bought 3-hole punch paper (at Office Depot) and a 3-ring binder for her to keep the emails in.

Thank you Jennifer, and Presto!

I'm so glad your mother is enjoying Presto. I've heard the comment alot that "I don't always have something interesting to send everyday" but find that for the recipient, it means alot that someone was thinking of them, even if they don't have "earth shattering" news. Sending old photos is a great way to take that pressure off yourself, and give your Mom something to look forward to and relive with you.

Thanks for the update!

Jennifer
