My 78 year old Mom has decided she can't handle the computer any more.  I'd like to simplify things for her and to that end I'd like to consolidate some of her bills and get her a Presto Email Printer.

Right now she's getting a bill from Comcast for cable TV, a bill from Verizon for local telephone (and DSL), and a bill from AT&T for long distance.   Scrapping the DSL and getting Comcast Digital Voice seems like an ideal solution except the Presto FAQ clearly states that Presto will not work with VOIP (and, if I'm not mistaken, Comcast Digital Voice is VOIP).

So I'm wondering.... is the FAQ up to date?  Are all VOIP implementations incompatable with Presto?  If not, has anyone has success using Comcast Digital Voice with Presto?

Thanks!

Quick follow up: There's no mention of Presto here: http://www.comcast.com/Customers/FAQ/FaqDetails.ashx?Id=3197

But perhaps one of the modem's listed is the same/similar to the one used inside the Presto?

Presto has been developed and tested to work with most Analog phone lines. It hasn't been until very recently that we have heard demand for VOIP support among our customers. We have heard anecdotally that some customers have been successful using it with their Printing Mailboxes, however, there are several configurations, VOIP adapters and providers, making it difficult to say exactly which combination will work. Comments about this topic on Presto Place and the aggressive marketing by both telephone and cable companies to sell VOIP services to a broader array of customers has gotten our attention. We are in the process of learning more about the different VOIP offerings and whether there are identifiable solutions that work with Presto. We'll be sure to keep you updated as we learn more.

I have a Printing Mailbox at home on a phone line provided by Astound! (formerly RCN) as part of a cable company triple-play: high-speed Internet, digital cable TV and telephone. Since my Presto mailbox and fax machine operate properly I assume this is an analog line that is converted from digital cable where the cable comes into my house (i.e. Not VOIP). So at least for me, digital cable service-provided phone is not a barrier for Presto. As Julia mentioned above, we are looking into this and will post clearer information.

Thanks for the info.

As it turns out I currently have Comcast Digital Voice at my residence and the implementation installed here presents an analog signal throughout my home. Comcast replaced my cable model with a combo unit that is both a cable modem and a Digital/Analog converter for voice. The analog line is fed into my home's phone junction (this is done after the line from the telephone pole is disconnected at that same junction). The end result is that for most intents and purposes all the phone jacks in my home have what appears to be a standard analog signal. Yet even Comcast acknowledges in their FAQ that not all analog equipment will work (see the link I posted earlier).

Also, I just noticed in the Amazon review section that this person had difficulties getting a Presto to work w/ Comcast Digital Voice and his existing phones. (Presto worked with Comcast Digital Voice but only if they unplugged their phone).

Just a quick update... I purchased a Presto Printer for my Mom and had it delivered to my home where I have Comcast Digital Voice. The Presto initially had a problem detecting a dial tone but has since successfully dialed in twice. While setting it up I took my time plugging in the phone cord so maybe that was the initial problem?

Presumably once my Mom signs up for CDV the printer will work just fine from her place too. My only concern is that she probably won't have Comcast internet service which might result in her being provisioned a different EMTA. A different EMTA might result in the problem the person in the Amazon review.(?)
