I got my 85 year old mom the Presto for Christmas and she absolutley loves it; almost thinks it's magic!  My husband and I are foster parents for our local humane society and always have kittens and puppies to raise.  Being an animal lover herself, she loves to get same day photos of the progress of our babes.

In the beginning, I set her mailbox with 5 delivery times, as one can do.  What I hadn't anticipated, however, is, that if she's on the telephone and it's time for her printer to check for messages, the printer cuts into her conversation and starts dialing.  It's as if another person in your house, not realizing you're on the phone, picks up another phone and starts dialing.  Even worse, if you don't get off the phone, the printer will keep trying to ring through every 5 minutes or so.

My only way around this is to set one calling time for the printer...11:00 at night; a time she's unlikely to be on the phone.  If I want to send her a message during the day, I go to the account manager site and pick a time of day closest to when I'm wanting to send my message.

Does anyone know how to deal with the printer being such a nuisance?

Dear Diggersmom:

Presto is designed to not interrupt phone calls, but since phone line quality varies so greatly across the U.S., there isn't only one way that Presto operates in all situations. As you mentioned, you can limit the number of times the mail is delivered. You can also instruct your Mom that she can press the "stop" button on her Printing Mailbox, if because of her specific phone line situation, it continues trying to dial over her conversation. It's pretty easy to manage one way or the other -- and for many people, it's not a problem at all. We don't get many complaints about this. That said, we are working on even better line-in-use detection software that will be automatically upgraded into existing Printing Mailboxes sometime in 2008.

Because of the size of the printer, we've had to put it near an extenion in a remote room.  I'm not clear if you're saying that when she gets this dialing problem, she could set down the phone she's on, go into the room where the printer sits and hit the STOP button, and that would stop the every 5 minute attempts to dial.
