Hi Everyone,

I haven't purchased a presto yet.  But I'm planning on it.

I have a question though... is there an option (or another similar product) that allows me to connect to (and use) a broadband internet connection instead of a phone line?

I already pay for an internet connection at my grandma's assisted living place (for myself to use).  And really can't affort to pay additional monthly fees for a phone line just for the presto machine.  (She's hard of hearing and doesn't use the telephone anyway - the phone line would be added for th presto service only).

Anyone have any info or options for me?

Thanks!!!

Diane

Presto is a currently a solution  for the non-web connected person. In most cases, it's safe to assume Grandma has a telephone but not a high-speed web connection. Your case is a bit different, but probably not common.

Most of the easy/simplified inbox solutions for e-mail make the same assumption Presto does; that the phone line is the only option. Unfortunately, I can't think of any alternatives at the moment, but maybe others in the community can think of something that would work for you.

What about voice-over-IP?  Anyone know of any really inexpensive VOIP solutions that would allow Diane's mother's Presto to "dial out" via the internet connection?

Today, Presto requires an analog phone line and cannot be adapted to use broadband. We are working on ideas for the future, but phone line is all that is available today.

Does your grandma have a neighbor with a phone line?  If they would be nice enough to allow you an extension off of it you could try the GE TL86597 InstaJack Wireless Phoneline Jack kit.  Just an idea.

Very interesting idea, Ckerno. One think to tell the neighbor is that Presto does not rack up any toll charges, so the extension line would only have local calls from the Presto.
