Can the HP printing mailbox be used as a regular printer?  (We've purchased one for my mother for Christmas, so we haven't taken it out of the box yet.)

When we visit her, can we configure the printer to work with our laptops?

Thanks for your help!

No, unfortunately you can't configure the HP Printing Mailbox to be used as a regular printer. However, PrestoPlace member "Moribund" suggested a way to use Presto to "print from Grandma's house" by just sending email, photos or PDF documents to Grandma's Presto and pressing the "phone home" key command to initiate a mail retrieval sequence (retrieve mail = press and hold "stop" button while then pressing the "+" key twice).

If you have a Microsoft Word or Excel document (or other) to print out, you can convert them to Adobe Acrobat (i.e. .PDF) documents  first, and then attach them to an email that is sent to Grandma's Presto email address. This will allow you to "print" while you are at her house. Read all about it at:

If you have a Mac, you have a printer. A macintosh will print any document to PDF for you. Then just email the PDF as an attachment to the printer as described above.

We have Presto users that routinely print Fandango movie tickets and boarding passes on "grandma's" Presto when they are visiting by converting documents to .PDF files and emailing to her Printing Mailbox. The trick is to get Internet access while at Grandma's house. Usually, it's either via dial-up or at the local Starbucks. It beats needing to find a FedEx Kinkos.

We have also recently had customers write us who have Apple iPhones who use Presto as their iPhone printer since it won't connect directly to a PC printer. More and more of the world is moving this way. In fact, I am writing this post from my own iPhone right now! : )
