Can anyone tell me which way paper goes into the printer? My mother wants to recycle the paper that the service has spit out with messages, etc. Should it load face (printed side) up or down? TIA, Moribund

It prints on the bottom side of the paper. So, just tell your mom to place any printed sheets with the "printed side UP."

There is one problem with this, however. When my mother-in-law does this, she gets printouts from the Presto Newsstand on the remaining blank side of the paper, but after the sheets are taken out of the machine, it is difficult to determine which side has the content that is "new." Even if you look for the date of the printout, it's confusing. So, for my own family, I keep a fresh ream or two of paper nearby.

We're planning to do the same thing. In our case, we're not getting too many newsstand articles, so that shouldn't be an issue.

When the printer first fired up it spit out all the "Welcome to Presto" pages, so those are candidates for reuse. I've been very restrictive on who can send to the printer. I make everyone send to me and then I forward. One of my sister's is very bad about forwarding out to everyone every bit of trivia that comes her way, which would wipe out a cartridge and ream in short order.

A suggestion. Many email clients have "rules" or "filters" that you can set up to automatically forward email from one person to another. You could, for instance, have all of the "trustworthy" people on your Presto Friends list auto-forward to your Presto owner, but have your sister's email come to you first. Just an idea.

We are just as environmentally conscious as most folks and want to reuse the back sides of the paper.  But since trying this suggestion, there have been paper jams when there NEVER were before.  It makes them grumpy with the machine!

This frustration has caused my parents to stop the duplex printing in favor of using new paper in all cases.  No more paper jams......   They shred the messages after reading them & now feed the compost pile.

Also, duplex printing forces the user to know a few things:

1) Which side is printed on; "up" or "down" (by the way, the Pritning Mailbox prints on the underside of the paper)

2) After printing, which side is the "new" side that should be read, vs. the other side which was already read.

I know these may seem like small issues, but I would suggest that EASIER USAGE for our collective Mothers and Fathers is more important for them than the small amount of paper that is used (in the grand scheme of things).

If the ecologically strident among you is aghast with this last statement, may I suggest buying reams of recycled paper, and to also remember how small a carbon footprint is represented by the use of a Presto Printing Mailbox as compared to adopting a computer with all it's attendant peripherals, cables, media, packaging, etc.

Just my opinion, but offered as another way to think about the issue.
