Hi Presto Members!

Unfortunately I have  been defeated after nearly a year of trying to get my mother to make good use of her Presto email printer. Despite my enthusiasm, I am three thousand miles away and cannot put paper in her printer or insert a new ink cartridge; nor can I jolly her along when Uncle Hughie sends her a 12-page email consisting of 11 pages of forwarding garbage and one page of jokes, which she throws away because she can't be bothered finding the joke.

So with regret and totally bummed, I am forced to discontinue this great service that my Mom is just not using and never will use. Rats.

So I have a Presto printer for someone. Any offers? (My Mom is in South Jersey if you happen to be near there to pick it up you'd save shipping; otherwise I'll have my brother ship it to you.)

Let me know. IN addition to posting here at PrestoPlace, email me at mac@mcwong.com so I'll know to check.

Thanks,

yours depressedly,

Mac McCarthy

INTERESTED  BUT RUSHED FOR TIME AND LIMITED ON PRICE. also an approx. age or number of times the printer has been used would be helpful. Does it come with all original instructions?? I am  trying to get it to them for Christmas. They live in Ohio. But I would want it shipped to Austin  first so I can make copies of any instructions. I will Handle the shipping to Ohio. Time is of the essence.

Did you get my email reply? Yes, I can ship it quickly to you, don't know if I have the instructions but anyway I believe they are online. Let me know!

We would be happy to send you an email of the quick start poster and user manual in any case. Just send me a private message with your request.

My parents don't have landline phone service. Just cell phones. So they'd have to buy landline service and pay to have a hole drilled in the wall for the landline cable and pay the phone co. to drive to their little town and blah blah blah.
Wanting a kid (or our parents) to play with the new toy you bought them just cuz you think they'd really love to get the daily letters and photographs, well, ya gotta look at whether they'll really USE it, like your own elderelative, there, whether they WANT to set up landline service, whether they want to find a PLACE for this typewriter-sized device.
My parents literally have nowhere to put the thing even if they did get landline service--which they won't.
Someone ought to be telling people who want to buy one that the recipient has to have a landline-not just a cell phone.

Although many people are indeed switching their land lines for cell phones, it is still true that the VAST majority of people in the Presto demographic have plain old telephone service. So, it's a good bet that there won't be any problem at all installing a Presto Printing Mailbox.

However, one thing to consider is this. Even if they DID need to install a landline. Considering they do not need to have an Internet provider, nor a PC, nor any software...easily Presto is still less expensive than a traditional computer setup -- and MUCH easier for them to use.

Most importantly, what Presto provides is a significantly easier time for the adult kids and grandkids of the Mailbox owner to use the digital tools they have come to use everyday instead of printing out photos at Walgreens, and then taking a trip to the U.S. Post Office to mail them to Grandma. Realistically, this just doesn't happen as often as people would intend because they are busy with their own lives and their own kids.

Presto provides relief to the extended friends and family of the Presto Mailbox owner by allowing them to just send and email, photo, or attachment -- while it allows the Mailbox owner to merely pick up the automatically printed and formatted message and photo. Both the sender and recipient use the system in the way they are most comfortable.

Thanks for listening,

Peter

Personally (and I am not trying to be mean here arky2), I would wonder why anyone would think that an internet based device would work off of a cell phone in a home anyway.

How were you expecting to connect the machine to the internet? Did you think you could just connect with a mini usb cable and use the cell phone as a modem for the presto? It's not like they are going to leave their cell phone tethered to the machine so it can dial out whenever it is scheduled to check for messages.

I would expect to have to use some kind of a wall jack for any device of that nature (with the possible exception of thinking I could hook into a wireless network via a wireless card - but how likely is that to exist for someone who only has cell phones instead of a landline or even in general with this demographic - although we happen to have one at my mom's house for visitors)?

Actually, I believe there are ways to connect a device to your cell phone so it can be connected to the internet. Some
