How many of the HP Printing Mailbox devices have been sold, and how many active Presto accounts are there today?   Are there any growth metrics over time?

...and how many "members" does this discussion forum have?

Presto Serviuces Inc. is a privately held company, so like most other private companies, we don't publicly state business information as mentioned above. I've asked the Capable Networks people how many PrestoPlace members there are and if they make that info public. They allowed me to state that info here.

As of the end of October, PrestoPlace has over two hundred registered members and many thousands more have visited the site but decided not to register. Not surprising since a lot of viewers may be coming to PrestoPlace to see what people are saying prior to deciding to make a Presto purchase.

There has only been one announcement of PrestoPlace to Presto users, so membership growth will take some time. Presto Services Inc. has started a significant amount of advertising and public relations initiatives to drive awareness of this great solution. We would love the help of the PrestoPlace community members in helping spread the good news if you are so inclined.

Please post comments about the above here, and look for another discussion thread on this subject.

Scenario No.1: My nephew has a PC with cable/DSL service. My sister doesn't know about computers (and does not want to know). Can you have a printer that is connected to the internet via the DSL service of my nephew's computer, so she doesn't have to use her phone line to receive my emails?

Scenario No.2: At work we have a remote location where we have a fax that we want to eliminate. Can you have a printer that is connected to the internet via the DSL service already available at the remote location, so they can receive our emails without having to use their only phone line?

I await your prompt answer to these two scenarios questions.

Answer to Scenario 1: Presto doesn't assist you today with this need. We are looking at "remote printing" applications via the Internet instead of the phone network for potential future products, but we don't have any solution for your sister today. That said, what you could do (assuming your the nephew you mention lives in the same house as your sister) is buy a wireless printer, and ask your nephew to connect his PC to that printer AND host your sister's email. Using a program like Microsoft Outlook, I believe you can set it to automatically print all emails (somewhere deep in the preferences of Outlook). That would allow your Sister to have a printer in her bedroom that automatically delivers her email. This is not a perfect solution, because of spam, attachments, etc. Presto worked through all those problems and delivers a more elegant solution for people like her...just using the phone line.

Answer to Scenario 2: Again, what you are referring to is "remote printing". I would suggest you do a Google search for that term, or consider using Presto. It doesn't tie up their existing phone line, and you can set it to retrieve mail up to five times a day. It really depends on how urgent your need for instant delivery is. Presto comes with a 60 day money back guarantee. Why don't you try it and see if it works for your business application? There are no service contracts imposed.

I suspect that a lot of the Presto end-users (if not most), probably do not have internet connections for the myriad of reasons stated elsewhere in this forum...

Having said that, a Presto configuration to access an IP address to pull mail from their Presto Mailbox several times a day woudl be possible -- this would achieve the spam-free delivery process that the Presto Team has successfully built for us.

Whether anyone would purchase internet access SOLELY for a Presto is another question, though, and I suspect that market segment would be quite small.  Who knows, if kurchatov324 wants to build a technical solution for his sister, he may be able to engineer (hack) an internet connection to Presto via SkypeOut which would not use a telephone line...  after all, the spam telemarketers are now quite successful at using computers to call us at dinnertime from "computers" that the phone company cannot intercept with their ACR services because (according to Verizon) the calls are not originating from a telephone line.  Frown
