I read the WSJ "Emailing to a computer free zone" referenced in one of the other forums and noticed that there is a special function mentioned in the article.  It said  that by holding the stop button and pressing the Volume up button twice that the presto will dial in.

Is this true?    Are there other functions like this?   Pretty sure I have read all of the instructions and lots of the FAQs etc.      Good Luck having Mom try that!!!!

Yes, this is true. There are a number of "secret" functions on the HP Printing Mailbox that assist in testing, etc. The one you reference from Walt Mossberg's article is correct. But as you correctly mention, this is not meant for someone's Mom or Dad to figure out. But it is really not that difficult, so feel free to use it if it helps.

FYI, A Presto Help Desk responder told me that while this initiates a call, it could take serveral HOURS, because it reinitiates the connect process, and if your phone system requires a prefix (i.e. a "9"), Presto tries all possible sequences until it determines the correct one.  In our case, this took more than 3 hours.

I don't need the whole "initiation" process, just a simple dial up and check mail.

Good Example:   I was doing a home repair and would have liked to have sent a picture to my Dad for his advice.  But I had no way of having them get the mail until the next day which was beyond the time I had for the repair.

Is there a website or something with these codes.    I have developed products with similar hidden functions and understand their purpose, but a sequence to invoke the normal dial-in would be nice.

PS The advice on the home repair is another "use case" of how to utilize Presto to include your loved ones.  Dad loves helping remotely on these type of things (even though I don't really need his help :-)  )

Is there any secret way to make the font size even larger than Presto's largest size? My mother in law still has to hold pages up really close to her face?

One clarification, the "secret" button sequence referenced above does not initiate the connection process from scratch (meaning taking lots more time with all the prefixes). There are OTHER secret codes that initiate this, but the sequence mentioned by Walt is not that one. Pressing and holding the STOP button while pressing the VOLUME UP button twice gets the HP Printing Mailbox to immediately retrieve any mail that is waiting.

Where can we get a copy of the other sequences?  or at least the ones that would make our lives as admins easier?

How about a keyword we could google for?

Help us, help you make this product successful.

I'm in the process of investigating what all of the codes are (I'm relatively new to Presto, so this is new to me) and I will post the ones that make sense for account managers to use. Stay tuned.

Here's what I have so far:

• holding the stop (X) button and pressing the volume up (+) button twice the printer will dial in.

• print a demo page by pressing and holding the stop (X) button while simultaneously pressing the volume down (-) button five times.

• print debug log -- press and hold the stop (X) button, then press the volume down (-) button twice, then press the olume up (+) button twice and then release the stop (X) button.

I seem to have misplaced the"Reset All" one, but apparently that one should only be used as a last resort anyway.
