Has anyone here created their own styles to use with Presto? If so, show us a picture or a screenshot of your work!

You can create your own styles? Where are instructions for that?

I don't know; can you?

Vicki, you are the one who posted "Has anyone here created their own styles to use with Presto? If so, show us a picture or a screenshot of your work!" Since you are an editor for PrestoPlace, your question would make me believe that you knew custom styles was an option and you wanted to see if anyone had made any. So my questions were based on the assumption that you knew something that I didn't and I'd like to know about it.

First of all, I am not an employee of Presto's. If you look at my .sig in my posts and at my profile, you'll see that I'm an editor for Capable Networks. We do not own the Presto, and I am not an expert on it. The company I work for maintains this site, but that doesn't mean that Capable's employees are experts on the Presto. Like you, I'm trying to learn more about this piece of equipment and what can be done with it.

So, if someone here has created a Style of their own, I want to know about it. And if they have, I'd like to see a screen shot or something of it.

Let me clear this up. Users can "select" the Presto Styles that they want their Presto Mail to look like by putting special "Presto Style Codes" in the subject line of the emails (I'm sure TheFrameGuy knows all about these).

For instance, if I send an email to my mother-in-law with the subject line: "Thinking of you [presto bouquet]", the resulting printout will will look like this:

- the subject line will be in red script
- the "[presto bouquet]" will be removed from the subject line
- there will be beautiful photos of roses in the corners
- attached photos will be centered and have a white border

You can see this specific Presto Style for yourself on the Presto main web site (click the "styles" link in the upper right corner).

Unfortunately, Presto users cannot create their own Presto Style, however I'd love to gauge interest in holding a contest where we solicit Presto Styles from the PrestoPlace community, and have the community vote for a winner that will be added to the list of Presto Styles. Of course we will need to select suitable prize(s) for the winner(s) besides fame within the community. Any interest?

You can also find a guide to styles here at PrestoPlace.com. Click here to find the right style for your message: http://www.prestoplace.com/article/10...

Personally, what I'd love to see is a little program or template to create your own Presto Styles. The built ins are great, but being able to do custom templates would be fantastic. So my thought is a little app that helps you build a style then saves it as a file type (like mystyle.prs). Then you attach that to your message like you would with photos, and the Pesto grabs the style and uses it to format the message. The Presto Mailbox wouldn't have to hold the style in memory or anything; I see these as one time only, and you have to attach the style each time you want to use it.

Even better is that these styles could be shared here in the community if they're just files... wouldn't that be cool?

What do you think TheFrameGuy? Would you use something like that? Maybe we can make a case for Presto to make something like that...

Now that sounds like a reasonable way to approach the "custom styles" feature.

Here is another "styles" idea. HP could license NFL logos and make NFL styles perfect for football season. Of course you've got MLB, the NBA and the NHL to consider too.

Great ideas, Matt and TFG. Since I'm relatively new to working at Presto, I don't know how much conversation has gone on here around the custom styles idea. I'll check. However, I will pass the idea around the development group to see what they say. We have some other interesting developments in the hopper around this issue, but I can't give a sneak peek on those yet. I will say that I'll be sure to pre-announce them to this community first (just not quite yet -- sorry for the tease).

Can the styles be turned off? Seems like a waste of ink to me.

Dear Marie:

Yes, you just sign in as the account manager, click on the "Styles and Print Sizes" button, and then select "Simple" as the default style. This uses the least amount of ink. Remember, however, if you ever want to override the simple setting and have the output of your Presto Mail look special for a specific occasion, you can include a Presto Style code in the subject line of that email and it will "invoke" the style one time. For example, once a month, I send my mother-in-law a calendar page by sending a blank email with an attached photo of one of her grandkids and the code: [Presto SeasonalDecember07] in the subject line (inluding the brackets). The code is not printed, but the output is a calendar with my photo in the header.

Question- can you modify the calendar to include personalized info ie family birthdays? or do you need to use the pdf feature- make you own, save as a pdf & then email.

We just got this for my 91 yr old grandmother- looking to use it as much as possible

At this time, you cannot modify calendar styles other than to add a photo. We are considering adding calendaring functionality some time in 2008, but I don't have any specifics on that right now. I would love to hear from PrestoPlace members on how much they care about this feature so I will probably do a PrestoPlace Poll in the near future. Your best bet is as you suggested, create a calendar with a graphics program and send it as a PDF.

we definitely need more styles.  A contest would be good but ... i don't care about contests as much as more styles or a way to use software to create my own styles.

Using Outlook or another email editor, why not create your own template or form in that editor and just send that to the Presto mailbox? Since Presto does pictures and such, it sounds like it would just "fax" this to the mailbox.

As Presto is now supposed to be able to print PDF as well, you could make up any design you want, convert to PDF and send it.
