Hi simsjs,
Did you buy an original HP cartridge new, or was it an off brand?

Just replaced the ink cartridge on the Grandparents presto and it did not reset the ink light on the printer, it was a new cartridge. I also power cycled the printer, that didn’t correct the problem. Has anyone had a similar problem, or is there another way to reset the ink light on the printer? thanks, John

Here are the general guidelines to follow if you install a new ink cartridge and the ink light remains lit:
Open the lid, wait for the print cartridge to move to the right. Remove the cartridge and double check that all of the plastic tab covering the print head contacts has been removed.
If that doesn't work, try re-seating the cartridge plus removing and reinstalling the paper.
Then, try printing a demo page by pressing and holding the Stop button while simultaneously pressing the "minus" volume button five times (while continuing to hold down the Stop button). You should hear a chime and after a minute, a demo page should print out. If it doesn't you could have a defective ink cartridge (even if brand new).
If after trying another brand new ink cartridge the Presto HP Printing Mailbox will not operate, you should contact Presto service at 1-866-428-0970 to initiate a return procedure. We're sorry you are having this problem. It is not typical for Presto users. Please try the above and let us know if it worked or how we can next help.

Don't judge a cartridge just by its price; the number of pages it can print is just as important. That figure will change depending on how much ink you use on a page; the industry-standard is 5% coverage per page for each color. Some companies make yield information available on the Web along with other printer specifications; others will provide it if you ask.
Occasionally cartridges are defective. After trying Peter's suggestions, I would definitely return the cartridge to the store and get a new one.
We have seen this before (i.e. new defective cartridges). God knows how many millions of the things are produced annually. Of course, if it is the original cartridge that came with the Presto, you can contact Presto service for a replacement. If it was purchased at a local retailer, you should take it back to them for replacement.
